bined to form the Gross Motor composite. The Examiner’s Manual discusses the test’s theoretical and research-based foundation, item development, standardization, adminis- tration and scoring procedures, normative tables, and guidelines for using and interpret- ing the test’s results. The average coefficient alpha is .88 for the Locomotor subtest, .89 for the Ball Skills subtest, and .93 for the composite. New validity studies demonstrate the test’s ability to differentiate children with cognitive impairments and autism spectrum disorder from typically developing children. For the cognitive impairment sample, a Gross Motor Index cutoff score of 90 resulted in a sensitivity of .71, a specificity of .91, and a receiver operating characteristic/area under the curve of .87. For the autism spectrum disorder sample, a Gross Motor Index cutoff score of 85 resulted in a sensitivity of .76, a speci- ficity of .91, and a ROC/AUC of .86. These optional assessments are designed to be administered after results from the Short Format or Full Format test show the need for further testing, to help compare an individual’s test results with relatively pure visual and motor perfor- mances. (One or both of the supplemental tests can be used.) A statistical comparison of results from all three tests can be quickly and easily made using the graphic profile provided in the test booklets. The Beery VMI was standardized on a national sample of 1,737 individuals ages 2 to 18 years (2010) and 1,021 adults ages 19 to 100 (2006) and has proven reliability and validity. Updates of medical, neuropsychological, international, and other studies are also reported. The Test of Gross Motor Development–Third Edition (TGMD-3) is a norm-referenced test used to identify children with gross-motor deficits. DESCRIPTION OF THE TEST

The TGMD-3 has two subtests. The first subtest, Locomotor, measures the gross-motor skills that require fluid, coordinated movements of the body as the child moves in one direction or another. The second subtest, Ball Skills, measures the gross-motor skills that demonstrate efficient throwing, striking, and catching movements. The TGMD-3 provides an overall composite (Gross Motor). The two subtest scaled scores are com- Beery VMI: Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration–Sixth Edition Starter Kit Keith E. Beery • Norman A. Buktenica • Natasha A. TESTING TIME: 15 minutes ADMINISTRATION: Individual Internationally respected and backed by decades of research and clinical use, the Beery VMI, now in its sixth edition, offers a convenient and eco- nomical way to screen for visual–motor, neuropsychological, and behavior problems. This edition also provides updated reports of medical, neuropsychological, international, and other important advances in the use of the Beery VMI in recent years.

The child and adult forms have been combined, making it more convenient if you work with clients of different ages. The Short Format and Full Format tests present draw- ings of geometric forms arranged in order of increasing difficulty that the individual is asked to copy. The Short Format is often used with children ages 2–8 years.

For use by psychologists, educational diagnosticians, learning disability specialists, OTs, and PTs, as well as teachers and counselors, the Full Range Test of Visual Motor Integration (FRTVMI) is a highly reliable, valid measure of visual-motor integration skills that not only covers the full range of school ages but, unlike most other tests of VMI, also includes norms

appropriate for special education students in the 19- to 21-year age range. Its norms include adults as well as children and adolescents (i.e., a full range of individuals from 5 years through 74 years can now be assessed with a common test). The FRTVMI assesses the ability to accurately relate visual stimuli to motor responses. The purposes of giving the test include (1) documenting the presence and degree of
