SB5: Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales–Fifth Edition

scores combine to form four types of composite scores: five factor indexes (Fluid Reasoning, Knowledge, Quantitative Reasoning, Visual-Spatial Processing, and Working Memory), two domains (Verbal and Nonverbal), Brief IQ from 2 subtests, and Full Scale (each with scaled score means of 100, SD = 15; range 40–160).

Gale H. Roid AGES: 2 to 85+ TESTING TIME: Approximately 5 minutes for each of 10 subtests ADMINISTRATION: Individual

Two subtests (one verbal and one nonverbal) combine to form each of the five factor index- es. There are two domain scales: Nonverbal IQ (combines the five nonverbal subtests) and Verbal IQ (combines the five verbal subtests). Two initial subtests combine to form the Abbreviated Battery IQ. Finally, the Full Scale IQ combines all 10 subtests.

The Examiner’s Manual provides detailed suggestions for interpretation of sub- test and composite scores, tables of norms, and additional interpretive guidelines. Supplemental interpretive tables and indexes are included in the Technical Manual and Supplemental Interpretive Manual. The scoring software automates the interpretive process by displaying narrative descriptions of scores and graphic profiles, along with identification of significant score differences. STATISTICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SB5 Normative data for the SB5 were gathered from 4,800 individuals between the ages of 2-0 and 85+ years. The normative sample closely matches the 2000 U.S. Census (education level based on 1999 data). Bias reviews were conducted on all items for the following variables: gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, region, and socioeconomic status. Additionally, the SB5 was co-normed with the Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test–Second Edition and linked to the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement . Reliabilities for the SB5 are very high. For the FSIQ, NVIQ, and VIQ, reliabilities range from .95 to .98 (average internal consistency composite reliability, across all age groups). Reliabilities for the Factor Indexes range from .90 to .92. For the 10 subtests, reliabilities range from .84 to .89. Extensive validity studies were conducted, including clinical-group differences, corre- lations with other tests, age trends, factor structure, and consequential validity. Many of these studies are presented in the Technical Manual, and others, in the supplemen- tal Interpretive Manual. SUPPLEMENTAL INTERPRETIVE MANUAL The Interpretive Manual provides detailed guidelines for effective interpretation of the SB5 for a number of applications, including its use by psychologists active in school, clinical, and counseling settings. Case studies, profile analyses, and example software reports provide concrete examples of interpretation. This manual also introduces an Extended IQ (EXIQ) scale that supports the calculation of Full Scale IQ scores substan- tially lower than 40 (e.g., to an IQ of 10) or higher than 160 (e.g., to an IQ of 225). COMPLETE SB5 KIT INCLUDES: Examiner’s Manual, Technical Manual, Item Book 1 (Routing Subtest), Item Book 2 (Nonverbal Subtest), Item Book 3 (Verbal Subtest), 25 Record Forms, and Manipulatives, all in a sturdy canvas carrying case. (©2003)

The Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales–Fifth Edition (SB5) has been widely known as the standard for intelligence measurement since 1916. This collection of 10 subtests, providing Nonverbal, Verbal, and Full Scale IQ scores and other diagnostic indexes, offers highly reliable assessment of intellectual and cognitive abilities, based on a large normative sample of 4,800 individuals ages 2 to 85+ years. Under the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA, 2004), the SB5 provides a comprehensive profile of scores to document the cognitive strengths and weaknesses of children, adolescents, and adults with learning difficul- ties, delays, and disabilities. FEATURES AND BENEFITS • One kit covers the full age range of 2 years to 85+ (no second or third kits required). • One half of the test has nonverbal content that requires no (or minimal) verbal responses from the examinee. • Pairs of SB5 subtests measure five cognitive factors (Fluid Reasoning, Knowledge, Quantitative, Visual-Spatial, and Working Memory) more than other competing IQ measures. • The five subtests in the Nonverbal section are useful in assessing individuals with Limited English Proficiency, deaf and hard-of-hearing conditions, nonverbal learning disabilities, ADHD, traumatic brain injury, and autism spectrum disorders. • The SB5 is prominent in the assessment of intellectual giftedness, and extensive high-end items are included to ensure measurement of high levels of gifted perfor- mance. • The SB5 also measures low levels of intellectual functioning because it includes many toys and improved low-end items for better measurement in the low-function- ing range. • Valid measurement of abilities into the elderly years is provided via enhanced assessment of memory. • Modernized artwork and item content are included. • Child-friendly manipulatives make the SB5 a popular choice for preschool testing. SCORING AND INTERPRETATION The SB5 can be hand-scored or scored with the SB5 Online Scoring and Report System . The scaled scores for the 10 subtests are the familiar profile scores used in other IQ measures—with a mean of 10 and standard deviation of 3 (range 1–19). These subtest

Early SB5: Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales for Early Childhood–Fifth Edition Gale H. Roid AGES: 2-0 to 7-3 (2-0 to 5-11 for full battery; 6-0 to 7-3 for abbreviated battery) TESTING TIME: 15 to 50 min. (30–50 min. for full battery, depending on age and ability; 15–20 min. for abbreviated battery) ADMINISTRATION: Individual FEATURES • Provides a lower-cost version of the Stanford-Binet–Fifth Edition for preschool assessment • Provides comprehensive coverage of five factors of cognitive ability • Includes child-friendly toys/manipulatives • Includes an entire nonverbal/low-verbal section that requires minimal verbal response from the examinee; useful for children with limited English, deafness/hard- of-hearing, autism, and other expressive-language difficulties • Includes a Test Observation Checklist to document behavior during testing USES The Early SB5 is basically identical to the SB5. The primary difference is that the Early SB5 provides only the materials necessary to test children ages 2–5, covering the full range of abilities. Professionals seeking a broad assessment of early intellectual giftedness for ages 6–7 should instead use the complete SB5. The Early SB5 can be used to assess intellectual deficiencies, delays, and disabilities; assess developmental delays in the cognitive and language domains; identify developmental disabilities in children with limited English and other expressive language difficulties; plan interven- tions, including individual family plans and individual education plans; and refer chil- dren for more extensive pre-academic and neuropsychological evaluations. ADMINISTRATION The Early SB5, like the SB5, has 10 subtests. Two subtests—Nonverbal Fluid Reasoning (Matrices) and Verbal Knowledge (Vocabulary)—cover the age range 2-0 through 7-3 and provide initial scores for tailoring the remaining test administration to the child’s ability level. The remaining eight subtests offer scores in the preschool range, from 2-0 through 5-11, to measure Fluid Reasoning, Knowledge, Quantitative Reasoning, Visual-Spatial Processing, and Working Memory abilities. SCORING AND INTERPRETATION

The Early SB5 can be scored by hand or scored with the optional SB5 Online Scoring and Report System . Scores available for Early SB5 include 10 subtest scores (mean of 10, SD of 3, range of 1–19), broad ability (factor index), IQ composite scores (mean of 100,

SD of 15, range of 40–160), percentile, optional change- sensitive scores (CSSs), and age-equivalents. CSSs provide an optional, criterion-referenced scale

(e.g., related to age level and complexity of tasks) rather than age-referenced norms and may be especially useful in the study of the rapid growth of abilities in children. The newly developed Test Observation Checklist identifies a range of behaviors that may serve as cautions for behavioral or cognitive difficulties that affect both the exam- inee’s performance on the test and his or her adaptation outside the testing situation. The 21 areas of behavior addressed in the checklist should be followed up through additional assessment, including observation, interview, and contact with parents, guardians, or other caregivers. PTONI: Primary Test of Nonverbal Intelligence David J. Ehrler • Ronnie L. McGhee AGES: 3-0 through 9-11

TESTING TIME: 5 to 15 minutes ADMINISTRATION: Individual

The Primary Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (PTONI) is a theoretically sound, research- based method of assessing reasoning abilities in young children. Psychologists, diag- nosticians, special educators, speech–language pathologists, and other professionals can use this test to identify both severe intellectual deficits and superior cognitive intel- ligence; help estimate future school success based on family history, educational back- ground, and personality traits; and study a wide range of researchable topics and issues. The PTONI was normed on a culturally and ethnically diverse demographic sample of 1,010 children, residing in 38 states. It is unbiased, quick, accurate, and cost- efficient. Testing takes approximately 5 to 15 minutes. Minimal oral directions and a pointing-response format make it one of the simplest and most easily understood of all nonverbal intelligence tests designed for young children. This test is composed of an Examiner’s Manual, a Picture Book with easel backing, and an Examiner Record Form. The test format requires a child to look at a series of pictures on each page in the Picture Book and point to the one picture that does not belong with the others. Items are arranged in order of difficulty. Early items measure lower order reasoning (e.g., visual and spatial perception). Later items measure higher order reasoning abilities (e.g., analogical thinking, sequential reasoning, cat- egorical formulation). A child’s performance is recorded as a standard score (called the Nonverbal Index), a percentile rank, and an age equivalent. COMPLETE PTONI KIT INCLUDES: Examiner’s Manual, Picture Book with Easel, and 25 Examiner Record Forms, all in a sturdy storage box. (©2008)

INTELLIGENCE AND APTITUDE

CAS2: Cognitive Assessment System–Second Edition Jack A. Naglieri • J. P. Das • Sam Goldstein AGES: 5 through 18 years TESTING TIME: 40 to 60 minutes ADMINISTRATION: Individual The Cognitive Assessment System–Second Edition (CAS2) is a well-researched, norm- referenced measure of cognitive ability based on the cognitive/neuropsychological theory called PASS (Planning, Attention, Simultaneous, and Successive). The CAS2 was designed to measure cognitive processing abilities important for a broad range of differential diagnoses and instructional planning in individuals ages 5-0 through 18-11. The CAS2 provides practitioners with a valid and reliable tool to evaluate children’s strengths and weaknesses in important areas of cognitive processing. CAS2 SCORES The CAS2 Extended Battery has three subtests in each of the four PASS scales. The Core Battery includes two subtests from each of the four PASS scales. Each PASS scale as well as the CAS2 Full Scale yields a standard score with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. • Planning —a cognitive process requiring the individual to select and use a strategy to solve a problem. The subtests require the solving of novel tasks. The three Planning subtests are: Planned Codes, Planned Connections, and Planned Number Matching. • Attention —a cognitive process requiring the individual to selectively attend to a particular stimulus and inhibit attending to competing stimuli. The three Attention subtests are: Expressive Attention, Number Detection, and Receptive Attention. • Simultaneous —a cognitive process involving integrating separate stimuli into a single whole or group. The three Simultaneous subtests are: Matrices, Verbal-Spatial Relations, and Figure Memory. • Successive —a cognitive process requiring the serial ordering of things. The four Successive subtests are: Word Series, Sentence Repetition (ages 5–7) or Sentence Questions (ages 8–18), and Visual Digit Span. The CAS2 also yields six supplemental composite scores: Executive Function without Working Memory, Executive Function with Working Memory, Working Memory, Verbal Content, Nonverbal Content, and Speed/Fluency. A visual-versus-auditory comparison is also provided. TECHNICAL FEATURES The CAS2 was standardized using a group of 1,342 children and adolescents who closely represent the population of the United States. Extensive reliability and valid- ity information is reported in the Interpretive and Technical Manual that accompanies the test. The 12-subtest Core Battery Full Scale reliability is .95, with the PASS Scale reliabilities ranging from .86 to .93. Internal consistency, test–retest, and scorer reli- ability studies were conducted. Types of validity reported include content-description, criterion-prediction, and construct-identification. Validity with special populations, including persons with speech or language impairment, learning disability, gifted and talented status, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety disorder, or Asperger’s syndrome, is reported. Special attention was paid to making the CAS2 fair for minority groups. Validity evidence reported in the Interpretive and Technical Manual demonstrates the test’s value for the assessment of diverse groups of children. INTERPRETATION The Interpretive and Technical Manual provides methods for interpreting scores. It explains how to examine the PASS profile, compare PASS scales, analyze subtests, and compare PASS scores to achievement. To determine intra-individual differences, the Interpretive and Technical Manual provides tables for evaluating the significance of the differences between the four PASS scale standard scores. It also provides similar tables to evaluate the significance of differences between scaled scores for each sub- test within a PASS Scale. Actuarial values are included. The CAS2 Examiner Record Form provides an Interpretive Worksheet for the calculation and recording of PASS Scale comparisons, subtest analysis, first-to-second-administration comparisons, and supplemental composite scores. Methods for using the PASS and Full Scale scores to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses are also provided. Due to the unique information that can be obtained from the CAS2, the results may be particularly helpful when assessing special populations. The Interpretive Manual also contains additional resources for examiners, such as impli- cations for intervention based on CAS2 results, several research-based instructional pro- grams directly linked to PASS theory, and an illustrative CAS2 report presenting a written interpretation of CAS2 results.

Each PASS Scale as well as the CAS2 Full Scale yields a percentile rank and standard score with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. The scores from the CAS2: Rating Scale can be used to (a) support a referral, sup- portive services, or special placements; (b) supplement a comprehensive evaluation; (c) compare teachers’ ratings with test results; (d) help plan and design academic interventions by revealing behaviors and skills the teacher considers problematic or lacking; and (e) monitor the effectiveness of interventions. Results are particularly use- ful when used as part of a comprehensive evaluation or as a prereferral/referral tool. TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS The CAS2: Rating Scale was standardized using a group of 1,383 children and ado- lescents that closely represent the population of the United States. Extensive reliability and validity information is reported in the Examiner’s Manual. Coefficient alpha reli- ability coefficients range from .93 to .98. Validity studies include an investigation of its diagnostic accuracy as it relates to its sensitivity, specificity, classification accuracy, and receiver operating characteristic/area under the curve (ROC/AUC). CAS2: Rating Scale Jack A. Naglieri • J. P. Das • Sam Goldstein AGES: 4 through 18 years TESTING TIME: 5 to 10 minutes ADMINISTRATION: Individual

The CAS2: Rating Scale is a norm-referenced measure of behaviors related to the cognitive/neuropsychological theory called PASS (Planning, Attention, Simultaneous, and Successive), completed by teachers. The rating scale provides scores for Planning, Attention, Simultaneous, and Successive scales as well as a Total Score.

CAS2: Brief Jack A. Naglieri • J. P. Das • Sam Goldstein AGES: 4 through 18 years TESTING TIME: 30 to 40 minutes ADMINISTRATION: Individual

The CAS2: Brief is a norm-referenced measure of cognitive ability based on the well-researched cognitive/neuropsychological theory called PASS (Planning, Attention, Simultaneous, and Successive). PASS abilities are evaluated using four subtests (Planned Codes, Simultaneous Matrices, Expressive Attention, and Successive Digits) that are combined to yield a Total Score. The sum of index scores can be converted into a percentile rank and composite index score with a mean of 100 and a standard devia- tion of 15. The CAS2: Brief provides practitioners with a brief but valid and reliable tool to exam- ine children’s and adolescents’ strengths and weaknesses in important areas of cogni- tive processing. The CAS2: Brief was designed to be used whenever a fast, reliable, research-based measure is needed to evaluate PASS cognitive abilities. This would include initial testing to measure overall ability and examination of variability in PASS scores to determine possible implications for intervention. CAS2: BRIEF COMPONENTS • Examiner’s Manual. This manual provides general information, specific instructions for administering and scoring the subtests, norms tables, and interpretive tables. • Stimulus Book. The Stimulus Book provides the stimulus items for the Simultaneous Matrices and Expressive Attention subtests. • Student Response Booklet. Examinees use the Student Response Booklet to record responses to the Planned Codes subtest. • Scoring Templates. A spiral-bound booklet with six scoring templates offers examin- ers a convenient aid for ease and accuracy in scoring the Planned Codes subtest. • Examiner Record Form. The Examiner Record Form provides space for recording responses for each subtest, as well as a summary of the scoring and permanent documentation of test results. • Red pencil. One red pencil is included for the student to use when taking the Planned Codes subtest.

The CAS2: Brief was standardized using a group of 1,417 children and adolescents who closely represent the population of the United States. Extensive reliability and validity information is reported in the Examiner’s Manual. Full Scale reliability is .94; subtest reliabilities range from .86 to .93. Validity studies compare CAS2: Brief results with both the CAS2 and CAS2: Rating Scale , as well as a variety of tests of intelligence and achievement. COMPLETE CAS2: BRIEF KIT INCLUDES: Examiner’s Manual, Stimulus Book, 25 Examiner Record Forms, 25 Student Response Booklets, Scoring Templates, and one red pencil, all in a sturdy storage box. This popular norm-referenced test uses nonverbal formats to measure the general intelligence of children and adults whose performance on traditional tests might be adversely affected by subtle or overt impairments involving language or motor abilities. The CTONI‑2 measures analogical reasoning, categorical classification, and sequential reasoning, using six subtests in two different contexts: pictures of familiar objects (e.g., people, toys, animals) and geometric designs (unfamiliar sketches and draw- ings). The six subtests are (1) Pictorial Analogies, (2) Geometric Analogies, (3) Pictorial Categories, (4) Geometric Categories, (5) Pictorial Sequences, and (6) Geometric Sequences. Results are reported as standard scores, percentile ranks, and age equivalents. The test was normed on a large (~2,827), representative national sample that was strati- fied by age. The reliability coefficients of its composite are mostly in the .90s, with a few in the high .80s. It correlates with most well-known intelligence tests in the high .70s. Considerable other validity evidence is provided in the manual.

Johnsen AGES: 6-0 through 89-11 TESTING TIME: 15 to 20 minutes ADMINISTRATION: Individual FEATURES • All-new normative data were collected to ensure proper representation of demo- graphic changes in the U.S. population. • Stratification variables include the four geographic regions in which subjects reside and their gender, race, ethnicity, parental education, and family/household socioeco- nomic status. • Potential bias in test items related to gender, ethnicity, disability, and race is ana- lyzed. • Additional test reliability and validity evidence is offered for the entire normative sample and also for specific subgroups of the sample to account for cognitive ability, race, ethnicity, and gender. • Each test item was reevaluated using both item analytic techniques and differential item functioning analyses. • Floor effects have been eliminated. • Verbal and pantomime directions are provided. • In addition to English, included are instructions in seven other major foreign languag- es: Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Tagalog. The Test of Nonverbal Intelligence–Fourth Edition is a practical, easy-to-use, norm- referenced instrument that measures an individual’s intelligence. The administration

and response formats are pragmatic, with simple oral instructions, requiring test tak- ers to answer only with simple but meaningful gestures, such as pointing, nodding, or blinking. This test is ideal for those who have language, hearing, or motor impairments or who are not familiar with mainstream American culture. Data were collected from a normative sample of 2,272 people residing in 33 states. The TONI-4 has two equivalent forms: Form A and Form B. Each form consists of 60 items, all of which are abstract/figural (i.e., void of pictures or cultural symbols); thus, educational, cultural, or experiential backgrounds will not adversely affect test results. All items are arranged in easy-to-difficult order. Each item contains one or more of the eight salient characteristics: (1) shape, (2) position, (3) direction, (4) rotation, (5) contiguity, (6) shading, (7) size, and (8) movement. Easier items contain one or two characteristics, while more difficult items contain several. Both forms can also be used for research purposes and periodic reevaluation. COMPLETE TONI-4 KIT INCLUDES: Examiner’s Manual, Picture Book, Critical Reviews and Research Findings (1982–2009), 50 Form A Answer Booklet and Record Forms, and 50 Form B Answer Booklet and Record Forms, all in a sturdy storage box.
